Although the shelter-in-place order is still in effect in the state of California, Cal-OSHA & CDPH will not be extending lead and asbestos certification deadlines. Refresher trainings and renewal applications will still need to be completed before your certifications expire in order to maintain your status.

The challenge: how do you complete training with shelter-in-place restrictions?

The good news is that both accrediting agencies are now allowing refresher courses for these certifications to be held online, at least while the State of Emergency restrictions remain in effect.  These refreshers can be one of two types; live virtual trainings or pre-programmed trainings you can take online at any time. In order to assist individuals wanting to maintain their certification status’, HMS Training is now offering both online refresher training types.

The first option, “live remote”, are instructor-led live webinars for both Cal/OSHA AHERA (asbestos) refreshers and CDPH Lead CE-General (Inspector/Assessor, Sampling Technician,  and Supervisor/Project Monitor) courses. These types of courses allow interaction between participants and our instructors through both audience response polling activities and online webinar discussions.  Utilizing video conferencing, we’re able to create an environment that resembles taking your course in-person, ensuring that students receive quality instruction tailored to their actual on-the-job needs.

HMS Training, in a partnership with CHC Training (a nationwide leader in online anytime training), now also offers self-paced AHERA refreshers, infused with HMS’ own practical, experienced perspectives and examples. You have 30 days from starting each course to finish, which allows you to work around your schedule while maintaining your certifications.

No matter which option you choose, it’s imperative to complete these trainings before your certifications expire. While we still feel that in-person courses are the best type of training, thanks to Cal-OSHA and CDPH, remote access to complete refresher training is now an option.
